Embedding Executive Function in the General Education Curriculum: Strategies for Reading, Writing, Note taking, and More
Presented by: Donna Kincaid, M.Ed. and Wendy Stacey, M.S.
As students progress through the grades, many academic tasks (e.g., reading, writing, note taking, test preparation, etc.) increasingly rely on the successful use of executive function strategies. When executive function strategy instruction is limited to special education classrooms, there is a risk that students will not learn the strategies they need to be successful. To support the learning needs of ALL students, executive function strategies must be embedded in general education classrooms, so that students understand why and how to use the strategies they need. In this training, attendees will explore the EF demands of the general education curriculum. Through hands-on activities, attendees will learn easy to teach short, engaging, and high impact strategy extensions that can be adapted to any subject.
