This is the second post in a series highlighting speakers of this year’s 36th Annual Executive Function Conference, which will focus on promoting resilience and equity for ALL students.
This November, we are honored to feature Pedro Noguera, Ph.D, Dean of the University of Southern California’s Rossier School of Education, who will offer a session on “Educating Equitably After the Pandemic: Promoting Student Agency and Self-Understanding.”
Educating Equitably After the Pandemic
What will education look like after the COVID-19 pandemic? How can educators address all their students’ needs, especially after the pandemic has exacerbated the many existing inequities in our society and schools?
Dr. Pedro Noguera is working to answer these questions. Sociologist, professor, executive director, classroom teacher – these are just a few of the roles that Dr. Noguera has occupied over the course of his decades-long tenure in education. In a recent article for USC Rossier’s magazine, Dr. Noguera urged that the return to school cannot be a return to normal. Instead, it must be a return to something better. (Dr. Irvin Scott, another speaker at our 36th Annual Conference, has called for the same).
At ResearchILD’s 36th Annual Executive Function Conference, Dr. Noguera will examine the preparations needed to manage more than the logistics of bringing students back to classrooms. Dr. Noguera will describe the steps that administrators and educators can take to address learning loss, trauma, and equitable learning opportunities for all students.
